When life feels overwhelming, and the weight of your thoughts becomes too much to carry alone, finding the right support can make all the difference. My practice is a space where you can feel truly heard, understood, and gently guided towards healing and growth.
My practice
My counselling practice is rooted in warmth and empathy. I aim to create a welcoming space, to enable you to feel safe to talk through your concerns and difficulties without judgment. My practice aims to be inclusive, to enable you to be completely yourself.
I am dedicated to you as a whole person. I understand that every journey is unique, and I tailor my support to meet your individual needs. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, or the complexities of neurodivergence, we can work together to help you feel comfortable being you.

My sessions are not about rushing to fix things but about walking alongside you, at your pace. This gentle, person-centred approach helps build trust and encourages openness, which is essential for meaningful progress.
How I Support You
In my experience, the best counselling feels like a conversation with a trusted friend who also happens to be a skilled guide. This is how I want you to experience me - warm, empathetic, and deeply respectful of your story.
Here’s what you can expect from our counselling sessions:
Active Listening: I will listen with full attention, making space for you to express your feelings without judgement.
Tailored Techniques: I will use a variety of therapeutic methods, including attachment theory, transactional analysis, mindfulness, and person-centred therapy, adapting them to what suits you best.
Focus on Strengths: It can be easy for therapy to focus only on addressing difficulties, but I will also help you recognise your strengths and build resilience.
Neurodivergent Awareness: I have a strong understanding of neurodivergence, ensuring that her support is inclusive and affirming.
Collaborative Goal Setting: Together, we’ll set realistic and meaningful goals that reflect your values and hopes.
This approach creates a nurturing space where healing can unfold naturally. You’re not alone in this - I will support you every step of the way.
The Importance of Inclusivity and Understanding
I am committed to an inclusive approach in my practice. I appreciate how hard it can feel having to explain yourself and your feelings to others and still feel unheard, how hard it can be to seek help for your mental health. I'm also aware of the impact of such experiences that come with this.
If you’ve ever felt misunderstood or overlooked in traditional therapy settings, I hope you will find my approach refreshingly different. I actively work to create a space where all identities and experiences are respected. This means you can bring your whole self to the sessions, without fear of being judged or dismissed.

My sensitivity to neurodivergent needs means I will adapt communication styles and session structures to help you feel comfortable and supported. I believe this flexibility is vital for fostering trust and making therapy effective.
Practical Steps to Begin Your Counselling Journey
Starting counselling can feel daunting, but I aim to make the process as smooth and welcoming as possible. Here are some practical steps to help you take that first step:
Reach Out: Contact me through my website or phone to arrange an initial conversation. This is a chance to ask questions and see if my approach feels right for you.
Initial Assessment: Your first session will focus on understanding your needs, challenges, and goals. There’s no pressure - it’s simply about getting to know each other.
Set Your Pace: You decide how often you want to meet and what you want to focus on. I appreciate the need to balance wanting to make progress along with feeling ready to discuss difficult issues and everyday life.
Ongoing Support: As you progress, sessions will evolve to suit your changing needs. I will check in with you regularly to ensure you feel comfortable and supported.
Self-Care Between Sessions: I often suggest gentle exercises or reflections to help you nurture your wellbeing outside of therapy.
Taking these steps can feel empowering. Remember, seeking help is a brave and important act of self-care.
How can I help?
Choosing a counsellor is a deeply personal decision. I understand how difficult it can be to share your story with someone you don't know. I offer a partnership in healing, enabling you to feel at ease.
If you’re looking for a counsellor who:
Creates a safe, inclusive space
Understands the nuances of neurodivergence
Uses a flexible, person-centred approach
Supports you with kindness and patience
then I will support you. You can learn more about online and in person sessions and get in touch: renate.walshcounsellor@gmail.com
